IndustryFusion: Release 1.0 appears in autumn

Development roadmap for first productively usable version in place - programming work completed in fall.

The development roadmap is in place, the programming work is in full swing: Release 1.0 of the open source networking solution IndustryFusion will be published in the fall of 2021. "The version of IndustryFusion that will then be available corresponds to a Minimum Viable Product - this means that we will provide a networking solution on the basis of which commercial applications can then also be built," explains Dr.-Ing. Konstantin Kernschmidt, Technical Lead at the IndustryFusion Foundation.

IndustryFusion is the first multi-vendor, open-source networking solution for Smart Factories and Smart Products that creates an interoperable link between machine, factory and cloud platforms. Ease of implementation is central to the solution, empowering companies of all sizes to intelligently digitize manufacturing & products and take advantage of a broad Industrie 4.0 ecosystem. Key components of IndustryFusion Release 1.0 will include the following features:

EcosystemManager

EcosystemManager provides a sophisticated structure on the basis of which a standardized data model can be created for the creation of digital twins of any assets. "This is a key prerequisite when it comes to creating semantic interoperability between different assets in a production facility," says Dr.-Ing. Konstantin Kernschmidt. Currently, several dozen machine manufacturers are already working on building corresponding data models for their product lines and asset categories.

FleetManager

Based on the standardized data model created in EcosystemManager, FleetManager enables machine manufacturers to concretely define the digital twin of a specific series or asset. In addition, FleetManager allows machine manufacturers to manage their products in the field: FleetManager provides an overview of all series and assets in use at the customer's site - assuming the customer's consent. In addition to reporting (condition monitoring), FleetManager also makes it possible to continuously expand and update the digital functionalities of systems (OTA - Over-the-Air).

FactoryManager

The FactoryManager is the control center for the operator of a networked production: With the tool, the manufacturing operator can create a digital image of his production - with all plants, production sections, rooms and production sites of his company. Assets for which a Digital Twin based on IndustryFusion is already provided by the manufacturer can be integrated according to the Plug & Produce principle. But also assets for which no configuration of the Digital Twin is (yet) available from the manufacturer can be easily integrated with the help of the IndustryFusion SmartBox - this applies, for example, to already existing plants in the production.

In summary: Via FactoryManager, the factory operator can in principle define which assets in his production should provide or receive data for further processing.

Dashboards

Whether real-time data of individual plants, complex manufacturing KPIs or cumulative reports of entire production sections - on the manufacturer-independent data basis of IndustryFusion, users always keep the overview for well-founded decisions. Already in the release 1.0 of IndustryFusion, the following dashboards are provided:

  • Maintenance dashboard: overview of all assets in the smart factory with regard to maintenance intervals
  • Dashboard machine utilization: Overview of all assets in the Smart Factory in terms of utilization as a basis for benchmarking and optimizing efficiency.

Alarms

Already in IndustryFusion Release 1.0, users are informed about abnormal conditions of the assets in their Smart Factory via notifications - such an early warning can subsequently prevent expensive machine failures. Rules for triggering such an alarm are not only defined by the manufacturer for the connected assets; IndustryFusion users can also configure their own alarm rules for their Smart Factory.

IndustryFusion Launchpad - The Launchpad is the start page of your IndustryFusion Factory - from here you have access to all important functions, to system applications as well as third-party applications.

FactoryManager - Location - The FactoryManager brings transparency to your production. By assigning machines to individual locations & rooms, you create a clear picture of your company.

FactoryManager - Machine Detail - On the Machine Detail page of FleetManager you will find the most important data of your machines summarized. In addition to data, you have access to the digital nameplate and a variety of productivity-enhancing apps & services from here.

FleetManager - Machine Series - In FleetManager you can make your products IndustryFusion ready. By creating a capability directory, you describe your product series on a semantic level & thus enable customers to easily integrate your intelligent products into the Smart Factory in the future.

Maintenance dashboard - On this dashboard you will find the maintenance intervals and conditions of all Smart Factory machines summarized in one place.

Machine Availability Dashboard - On this dashboard you will find an overview of all machines according to their utilization.

EXTRA: IndustryFusion Foundation

Based on many years of close cooperation between machine and plant builders, component manufacturers, software developers, and representatives from science and politics in the Association Industry Business Network 4.0 e.V. was the IndustryFusion Foundation was founded on July 27, 2020 in St. Gallen (Switzerland). The Foundation is to create the foundations for digitization and networking of the European industry through open standards and reference implementations and to ensure their continuous further development. The central focus is on the further development of IndustryFusion - a multi-vendor, open-source networking solution for smart factories and smart products.
